In a move that it says will allow an additional 1,000 people suffering with cancer to receive ‘world-class cancer care’ closer to home, GenesisCare has announced that building work has started on a £12 m expansion to create ‘a stateof-the-art’ cancer imaging and treatment centre’, GenesisCare, Oxford.

The investment comes after four successful years of GenesisCare services in Oxford, and will double the footprint of the original site at Eastpoint Business Park, and provide greater patient access and 15 new permanent jobs, enabling the centre to offer the latest cancer imaging and radiotherapy care, including advanced PET-CT and 3T MRI imaging. The new facilities and services will allow patients to be referred, diagnosed, and treated, on average in five days.

Dr Ruth MacPherson, consultant radiologist, said: “The latest in MRI and PET-CT imaging systems are central to the management of cancer patients. This investment in ‘state-of-the-art’ services will enable patients with suspected cancer to receive a rapid and accurate diagnosis, while those receiving therapy will have their treatment responses monitored with greater precision.”

A new theranostic suite and clinical trials unit will provide research institutions and industry partners with new facilities to conduct clinical trials in a dedicated environment in which to further cancer research.
